Users decide what BEETLE model and configuration they need to meet their requirements – whether modular or compact, thin or fat, or with a character or graphical user interface. Users can also freely choose the operating system

– MS-DOS, Windows or Linux – and the application software they want to use. Of course, this also applies to the peripheral devices that complete the system and turn it into a tailored vertical solution.

The best-in-class system philosophy

The increasing need for cost-optimized IT solutions has led to the development of new, alternative technologies in retailing, too. These server-oriented solution concepts have mainly been developed in Java and place new demands on hardware and software. The goal of these new applications, also referred to as server-centric computing, is to optimize the cost of software distribution/main-tenance and system administration, and thus to minimize TCO.

BEETLE/XS i BEETLE/S

The BEETLE /XS is an intelligent thin client system that has been tailored to these server-centric applications and can be used in conventional client/server solutions. It does not matter whether the system is used as a service, administration or POS terminal. The BEETLE /XS has an attractive design, a very small footprint and high availability, and comes at an optimum price/performance ratio. Very easy maintenance and flash memory technology ensure optimum system costs.

The BEETLE /S also meets the requirements of a thin client terminal. Its design, performance and features correspond to those of the BEETLE /XS, but the system can be expanded to support more ports and drives thanks to its greater height and its I/O slot. This system is therefore the ideal computerized desktop POS system both for standalone and server-centric network solutions

A special feature of these two models is that they become intuitive-to-operate POS terminals in conjunction with our 12.1” or 15” adaptable TFT flat screens with a touch surface.

The BEETLE /S is also available as a kiosk/information terminal to hang on the wall.

Users decide what applications will run on systems or servers, and whether systems are thin or flat clients, based on Windows 32 or Linux, or feature a flash memory module or hard disk drive.

BEETLE/M i BEETLE/XL-II

Maximum reliability thanks to an integrated uninterruptible power supply, the option of a second hard disk, lockable drives, and maximum flexibility and expandability for their footprints characterize our BEETLE /M and /XL-II models.

The BEETLE /M is the ideal platform for modular best-of-breed POS solutions for many of our customers. This model is an ideal compromise between a small footprint and required expandability. In addition to featuring standard BEETLE ports, the system also supports installation of two I/O expansion cards, one D drive.

The BEETLE /XL-II is the “big brother ” of the BEETLE /M. This model supports four I/O expansion cards and the option of installing another accessible 3.5“ drive such as a backup streamer. Its larger housing means that this model has the most options for expansion. The BEETLE / XL-II provides enough reserves for future upgrades, and also has sufficient power and expandability to be deployed as a Server

BEETLE/M-II

This model is a further development of the very successful BEETLE /M and has been optimized in terms of processor technology, interfaces, support for scales and serviceability. Although it has a compact design the BEETLE /M-II is very flexible and expandable, and supports a wide range of drive and interface options. The system features proven PC technology based on Intel Pentium 4 processors in conjunction with the Intel 845 GV chipset. During its development Wincor-Nixdorf made a point of only using components that will be available in the long term in order to be able to deliver products in the long term.

Various standard PC and retail-specific powered interfaces – both USB and RS232 – are available to connect peripherals such as scanners, POS printers, touchscreens, customer displays and the like.

The integrated scales technology makes it possible to display both weight and price/item information on just one display for the first time. This integrated function makes it easier for our customers to capture product information at the point of sale.

The BEETLE /M-II is the ideal system platform when it comes to powerful Windows32 and Linux-based applications featuring a graphical user interface. In addition to POS functions, the system‘s powerful processor can support multimedia facilities extending to video and audio solutions

Peripherals

All BEETLE models are open system platforms for modern, flexible POS solutions in the best-of-breed sense, and support requirements for maximum modularity.

Wincor nixdorf have an extensive range of re-tail-specific peripherals such as POS printers, bar code scanners, line displays, cash drawers, POS keyboards, flat screens and the like. Our portfolio of self-developed and OEM products includes everything that is needed for a professional POS solution. Of course, third-party equipment can also be connected if required.

Company can also assume the role of a systems integrator, and configure the products in such a way that all solution components can interact error-free. This also covers provision of the retail-speci-fic OPOS and JavaPOS drivers as well as, upon request, customizing the overall configuration.

Communication

BEETLE systems can communicate over all standardized networks. Users decide whether they want a LAN or WAN, cabled or wireless technology, TCP/IP, IPX/SPX or Netbios.
